Move Bookmarks - Chrome, Safari, and Firefox

Overview

This guide shows two ways to move bookmarks between computers for Chrome, Safari, and Firefox.

- Method 1 - Export to an HTML file and import on the destination.


- Method 2 - Sign in and enable Sync on the source, then sign in on the destination and enable sync.

Google Chrome - Export and Import Bookmarks

1. On the source computer open Chrome.

2. Click the three-dot menu > Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.

3. In Bookmark Manager, click the three-dot menu and choose Export bookmarks. Save the HTML file.

4. On the destination computer open Chrome > Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.

5. Click the three-dot menu and choose Import bookmarks, then select the HTML you exported.

6. Verify bookmarks appear as expected.

Google Chrome - Sync Bookmarks

1. On the source computer sign in to Chrome and turn on Sync. Ensure Bookmarks is enabled.

2. On the destination computer sign in to the same Google account and enable Bookmarks in Sync.

3. Chrome will sync bookmarks automatically.

Apple Safari - Export and Import Bookmarks

1. On the source Mac open Safari.

2. Go to File > Export > Bookmarks. Save the HTML file.

3. On the destination Mac open Safari and go to File > Import From > Bookmarks HTML File. Select the HTML.

4. Safari will import bookmarks into a folder or merge with existing bookmarks.

Apple Safari - Sync with iCloud

1. On the source Mac open System Settings > Apple ID > iCloud. Turn on Safari.

2. On the destination Mac sign in with the same Apple ID and turn on Safari in iCloud settings.

3. Allow a few minutes for bookmarks to sync across devices.

4. Optional - enable Safari in iCloud on iPhone or iPad to sync bookmarks to mobile devices.

Mozilla Firefox - Export and Import Bookmarks

1. On the source computer open Firefox. Press Ctrl-Shift-O or open the Library.

2. In the Library window click Import and Backup > Export Bookmarks to HTML. Save the file.

3. On the destination computer open the Library and click Import and Backup > Import Bookmarks from HTML.

4. Select the exported HTML and verify bookmarks appear correctly.

Mozilla Firefox - Sync Bookmarks

1. On the source computer sign in to your Firefox Account. Open Settings > Sync and enable Bookmarks.

2. On the destination computer sign in to the same account and enable Bookmarks in Sync.

3. Firefox will sync bookmarks automatically.


Tips and Notes

- Bookmark HTML exports preserve folder structure but not icons. Icons will repopulate as you visit sites.


- When using Sync, verify you are signed into the correct account before proceeding.


- After import, clean up duplicates and organize folders as needed.
