Overview
OneDrive Files On-Demand can store files only in the cloud until opened. If you want all files downloaded and available offline, you must turn off Files On-Demand on each device.
Windows 10/11 Steps
1. Right-click the OneDrive cloud icon in the system tray (bottom-right corner).
2. Click the gear icon → Settings.
3. Select Sync and backup.
4. Go to Advanced settings.
5. Under Files On-Demand, uncheck the option:
– “Save space and download files as you use them.”
6. Confirm the prompt to download all OneDrive files to your computer.
7. Wait for all files to download locally.
macOS Steps
1. Click the OneDrive cloud icon in the top menu bar.
2. Click the … (More) button → Preferences.
3. Select Sync and Backup.
4. Click Advanced Settings.
5. Under Files On-Demand, uncheck the option:
– “Save space and download files as you use them.”
6. Confirm the prompt to download all OneDrive files to your Mac.
7. Wait for all files to download locally.
Verify Files Are Stored Locally
On both Windows and macOS: - Open your OneDrive folder - Check the Status icon next to files - A solid green circle with a white checkmark means the file is stored locally and always available
Notes
• Files On-Demand must be turned off separately on each device.
• OneDrive.com cannot disable Files On-Demand for any device.
• Downloading all files may require available disk space on the computer.
