Overview
Many users who install Microsoft 365 Office apps now get the New Outlook automatically. If you prefer the familiar Classic Outlook experience, you can easily switch back — though the option is in a different place depending on whether you’re using Windows or macOS.
Windows Instructions
1. Open Outlook (New) on your computer.
2. In the upper-right corner, locate the New Outlook toggle.
3. Click the toggle to turn it off and confirm you want to return to Classic Outlook.
4. Outlook will close and reopen automatically in the Classic version.
If You Don’t See the Toggle:
• The toggle may not appear if you installed the Microsoft 365 suite using the Microsoft Store version.
• In that case, download and install the Office 365 desktop installer (click-to-run) version instead:
👉 https://www.office.com → Sign in → click Install Office → choose Microsoft 365 Apps for Windows.
• After installation, open Outlook (Classic) from your Start Menu (it may show as just “Outlook” or “Outlook (classic)”).
Tip:
If you’d like to keep both versions handy, search Outlook in the Start menu, right-click both Outlook (New) and Outlook (Classic), and select Pin to taskbar for quick switching.
Mac Instructions
1. Open Outlook.
2. In the top menu bar, click Help → Revert to Legacy Outlook.
3. Outlook will automatically close and reopen in the Classic (Legacy) version.
If You Want the New Outlook Again:
• Go to Help → Try the New Outlook to switch back at any time.
Important Note:
Accounts added in the New Outlook do not automatically appear in Legacy Outlook, and vice versa. You may need to re-add your email accounts when switching between versions.
